Chapter One
(17742–18187, Era of Frost Veil) Born in Hilica, forest elf Phylicia came from a family where her mother held the highest status, having once served as the Queen's maid.
Like all elves then, Phylicia's family greatly admired Queen Maiyee. Young Phylicia envied her mother's experiences and dreamed of serving the Queen one day, just like her.
When the family eagerly went for the aptitude assessment, the treants told her mother that Phylicia wasn't suited to be a maid. Her strong build and flexibility indicated she'd be an excellent elf warrior, which saddened young Phylicia for quite some time.
At just 7 years old, Phylicia even sneaked off to Bechizel for a reassessment. Her bravery only confirmed the treants' belief that she was destined to be a warrior.
As a combat-suited elf, Phylicia had slim chances to serve the Queen. Knowing that most of the Queen's Green Guards were high-level elves deeply disheartened her as a forest elf.
The turning point came during a quarrel between her parents. Despite her mother's higher status from serving the Queen, her father's anger revealed something crucial.
"Your father's service as the Queen's guard is likely why the treants chose you back then! With your clumsiness, you probably caused a lot of trouble serving the Queen. Your daughter is just as awkward as you! "
"You bastard! I'll kill you! Stay there! Don't run! "
Outside, Phylicia couldn't worry about her parents' quarrel. Her thoughts fixated on her father's words. Could her grandfather have served the Queen? So, forest elves could also go to Aishimia to protect Her Majesty!
But what qualifies someone to serve as Her Majesty's Green Guard? Phylicia didn't yet know that her "Weapon Affinity" was an exceptionally rare talent among the elves.
Phylicia didn't waste this talent. Decades of rigorous training made her one of the finest weapon masters among the elves.
At her coming-of-age ceremony, she chose the short dagger "Swiftblade" as her Locke, meaning "The Swift Elf."
By then, Phylicia was among the elves' top warriors. She knew Yarve well and was loyal, making her ideal as the Queen's guard or the princess's mentor.
In the Era of Frost Veil, 17852, Treant Gill declared the Queen's order, naming Phylicia, "The Swift Elf," daughter of Robert and Io, as the Queen's Guard leader and chief mentor of Aishimia.
This meant she would guard the Queen daily and also help educate the princess.
The young princess Melidie, like the Queen once was, was seen as the next Elven Sovereign. Phylicia, a forest elf, would be her weapon mentor, which sparked considerable debate at the time.
Under the Heartwood, Phylicia swore to protect Her Majesty and Yarve with her life.
Chapter Two
With the dragon's retreat before the Frost Witch's frost, the Sacred Dragon War reached a provisional truce.
Being a guardian was more tedious than anticipated; the Heartwood empowered the Elven Sovereign with incredible strength, eliminating any threat to his rule in Aishimia.
Phylicia spent most of her time teaching the young princess, whose intelligence exceeded expectations. This allowed Phylicia to impart a wealth of wisdom, occasionally bringing a rare smile to her face.
Teaching the princess manners proved challenging; she was a defiant child unlike her sovereign. Even Phylicia had to admit the princess's magnetic charisma, revered by most young Elves as their icon.
In this chaotic era, a stronger leader was needed; sometimes, the sovereign was too lenient.
Phylicia felt a twinge of guilt for questioning her majesty. Yet, she believed many Elves shared her view: Melidie symbolized the destiny of their race.
She knew she had to work harder or risk being overshadowed by the sharp-witted young master.
Over time, the Elves returned to a peaceful era until humanity disrupted the balance.
The dragon prince's murder reignited war, as dragons rampaged with indiscriminate attacks, pulling the elves back into conflict and enveloping Ciaran in battle once more.
Phylicia was Melidie's personal guard sent to Ciaran, where long-rested dragons had become a formidable force, and Elves confronted "Azure Sea" Frederica's Second Dragon Guard on the Western Front.
The loss of High Commander Doron in battle deeply affected elven morale.
Phylicia's orders were to rally the battered forces, help the princess reorganize the defense line, and lead the guard's assault on the Ice Dragon, holding back the dragons while awaiting Yarve's support.
Amid the conflict, Phylicia emerged as a true hero of warfare.
Chapter Three
War rarely goes as planned. Phylicia excelled in every task, enduring relentless dragon assaults but ultimately faced defeat.
After the Wildfire Battle, Safaril has fallen, Yasor the Beast King is dead, and the military alliance teeters on collapse. The Elves retreat to Yarve to sign an armistice with the dragons.
The dragons win a hollow victory, seizing the ravaged Ciaran.
This loss severely tarnishes the Elf Queen's reputation, and her command to force Melidie back to Yarve deeply frustrates the front-line Elves.
The ongoing weakness of the Heartwood fuels this discontent. In response, Maiyee appoints Phylicia as High Commander.
This unprecedented move—appointing a Forest Elf to a top position—stirs significant unrest among Elves, who prioritize lineage.
While this decision wins some Forest Elf support for Maiyee, it fractures the formerly united Calrissian. Initially minor, these divisions grow when the Lord Deity arrives.
The Lord Deity, backed by the Abyss and humans, overpowers Maiyee and her Elves, while traitors view him as their savior.
The Dark Elves signal the Lord Deity's ultimatum to the Elves and the onset of Yarve's division.
When her most esteemed disciple kneels to the Lord Deity, Phylicia feels hatred for her homeland for the first time.
Driven by rage, she slaughters the treacherous Dark Elves, soaking Yarve's soil with their blood.
As the sunset paints the land, Phylicia's destiny is sealed.
Though the Dark Elf's whip pierces her body, it cannot shatter her spirit.
"I am… a child of the noble Karianthillae," she thinks.
Historical Notes
Hilica:
Nestled in the western part of the Yarve Archipelago, Hilica stands as the largest island within this island chain. It is heavily forested, serving as a sanctuary for the Forest Elves.
Treant:
A unique life form only found in Yarve. Treants boast lifespans that can extend up to ten thousand years. Closely tied to the Heartwood Karianthillae, all Treants perished after the tree's destruction by Melidie. Originating during the middle of Pact of Jancis era, the exact genesis of Treants remains shrouded in mystery.
Frost Witch:
Carlotte Snow, hailed as Winter's Grace (17861–17903, Era of Frost Veil), became famous for leading the defense against the Parthen Legion in Cariblue.
Swiftblade:
A relic of the Golden Age. Swiftblade is a weapon forged in a single piece, showcasing Dwarf craftsmanship at its finest. It enhances the bearer's sensory perception. Gifted to Phylicia by Eorich, this master of weapons carried this blade to Bechizel and chose a swiftblade as her Locke.
The Heartwood:
Typically refers to Karianthillae. The Heartwood's blessings are said to significantly boost an Elven Sovereign's power. Maiyee's magic, accumulated for millennia, surpasses that of any dragon after being amplified the tree.
Balance Broken by Humans
This marks the year 18064 of the Era of Frost Veil, when Danni's father, the dragon Prince Stewart, was assassinated. The incident is steeped in controversy. It is widely believed that Elven High Commander Doron orchestrated the assassination, involving humans in the plot.
Frederica:
Known as Azure Sea, Frederica serves as the third Dragon Guard and commander of the western front for the dragons. Dragon Guards typically focus on royal protection rather than warfare. However, consumed by the grief of losing her husband, Grishelda lost her sense of reason. She commanded her most trusted Dragon Guard to pursue the assassin. Frederica fulfilled her task from the Azure Queen impeccably.
Wildfire Battle:
The Wildfire Battle (18082–18091) marked the last grand-scale conflict in Mirren history, arguably the most vast in history. It featured an unprecedented mix of races, immense scale, and brutal combat.
Decay of the Heartwood
The weakening of Karianthillae might have been caused by Lord Deity and Lord Inquisitor extracting large amounts of the Elixir of Vitae. Yet some superstitious Elves blamed it on Maiyee's poor leadership. That spurred the rebellious cry in Countric—"Maiyee has been forsaken by the Heartwood."
Afterglow at Dusk
The Dusk's Afterglow refers to the fall of Sinkou, signifying the end of humanity's resistance against Lord Deity under Jancis' dominion.
