Personal Info

Bubbly, bright-eyed, and optimistic, Skylark belongs to the treasure-hunting team Wilderness Rangers, chasing leads across the Abyss in pursuit of legendary riches.
She wears her heart on her sleeve—no filters, no hidden agendas. If a thought crosses her mind, it's out of her mouth. One moment, she has an idea; the next, she puts it into action.
Even strangers get treated to full breakdowns of her treasure-hunting plans, much to her teammates' dismay.
Yet her blatant honesty backfires beautifully. The information she "let slip" was met with disbelief.
Thankfully, she's since learned to reign in the oversharing. Mostly.

Chronicles

Back when she was still at the academy, she'd always go on about how "the Abyss is full of treasures!" Of course, we all knew that wasn't true.
But if anyone outright told her it was all lies, she'd never believe it. Once an argument started, she'd easily burst into tears. So, naturally, we all just believed her.
If some clueless jerk tried to pick a fight with her over it, we'd even step in to "convince" them otherwise. After all, her naive little fantasies were just too adorable!

When she decided to become an Explorer, we were all terrified, especially my father. He still blames himself for it.
Since he was the one who mostly raised her as a child, he filled her head with all those unbelievable tall tales that painted a rosy picture of that world.
And my wife and I are guilty, too. Whenever she'd ask us if her grandfather's stories were true, we'd play along and say "Of course!" just to see her eyes light up...
By the time we realized how badly we'd messed up, it was too late. No matter what we said, she was convinced we were just trying to stop her from going to the Abyss.
That girl's been sheltered her whole life. She's never known hardship, never learned the ways of the world... and has no idea how cruel people can be.
— Skylark's Father

Honestly, Skylark's got decent talent and skill. She just wasted too much time playing knight games with her little group, so her training lagged behind.
After I had a few stern talks with them, they finally shaped up and started pushing her to take her practice seriously.
She's so gullible, though. Believes anything anyone tells her. It's downright tempting to tease her sometimes...
N-Not that I've ever done it! That was mostly those idiots... Fine, maybe once or twice... But nothing serious!

Record

Several days into joining the team, everyone knew Skylark was hunting for a treasure trove beyond imagination.
Rather than raising eyebrows, the team cheered her on, which makes you wonder:
Does this place actually exist? Or are wild obsessions actually a common occurrence in the team?
Flattered by the support, Skylark even hosted a meeting for interested members, where they brainstormed their future windfall.

But Skylark didn't realize that most attendees were just there for the thrill of it.
This explains why her treasure-hunting plans faced no interference within the team, not even questions about basics.
No one bothered considering how far her plans might progress, what dangers she might encounter, or what impact it might have on the team.
Even if problems did arise from her actions, those spectators would step in to help her.

Anecdote

Skylark had a scroll, one that detailed the trials she must complete to earn her title as a Knight.
Whenever she wasn't on duty, and when she wasn't busy plotting treasure hunts, she would pick an entry from the list and set out to fulfill it.
"Hit an apple from a hundred meters away. Check. Defeat thirty monsters alone... Hm, that one's a bit tough. Maybe later."
"Travel solo to the nearest Outpost and back, eliminating every monster encountered along the way. That's doable. Today's the day!"
Decision made, she waved to her companions and set off to an Outpost nearby.

The journey there went smoothly, with just a few weak monsters easily handled. But on the way back, trouble found her.
Spotting a scavenger fleeing from a pack of monsters, Skylark veered off the main path to help and lost her way. And while searching for the road, she stumbled straight into a monster den.
As the creatures closed in, hesitation flickered through her.
Run? But today's mission was to slay every monster encountered. If I flee now... with this many...
The monsters didn't give her time to deliberate. One lunged while she was still weighing her options, forcing her to snap into focus.
Darting, leaping, she evaded every attack, countering each with ruthless precision.
One. Two. Seven. Eight... Soon, only a handful remained. The survivors knew that they didn't stand a chance and turned to flee.
But Skylark had already made up her mind. Not a single one could escape.

By the time it was over, she was grinning. Two trials crossed off the scroll in one go. Another step closer to her knighthood title.
What she didn't notice, in the heat of battle, was another group fighting for their lives just a short distance away.
"Will Skylark be alright?"
"Worry about yourself, idiot! When she's serious, those things are a breeze."
"Heh. Then let's handle this big one ourselves! All knights! CHARGE!"
