Personal Info

A member of the exploration organization known as the Key of Truth, Rann possesses outstanding skill and conducts herself with strict discipline. She operates in the Abyss with the goal of becoming a legendary Explorer.
Stubborn and strong-willed by nature, once she decides on something, she never changes course easily. She handles people and matters according to her own principles.
She trains diligently and never misses a chance to temper herself. However, she lacks awareness in matters outside her training, and has even mistaken hearsay for truth on occasion.

According to publicly available records, she was born into a fallen noble family. She became an Explorer to strengthen herself and prepare for the eventual restoration of her household.
Yet she rarely interacts with other nobles and maintains only essential contact with commoners.
This suggests she is not adept at managing interpersonal relationships, and attempting to restore her family name solely through her role as an Explorer may prove exceedingly difficult.

Chronicles

I can never bring myself to care about things that don't make me happy—but Rann's different. As long as she believes something is her responsibility, she'll do it whether she enjoys it or not.
It must be exhausting, right? She always pushes herself so hard, insisting on handling everything alone.
But after coming to the Abyss, she's changed a little. Haha—she still talks about restoring her family name, but I can tell she's actually starting to enjoy exploring.
If we get to experience more fun things together, maybe she'll realize that happiness and joy are what we should be chasing after!

She was even cuter when she was little—nothing like the serious, earnest girl she is now. But well, she looks wonderful these days too. I imagine she's quite popular among the Explorers, hahahaha.
As you can see, this place is remote, but peaceful. My wife and I enjoy our life here very much.
I was never well-liked in the family—too unambitious, they said. There were always whispers, too... and that child just couldn't bear hearing them, so she pushed herself so hard to prove them wrong.
A hardworking daughter like her truly shines... but our lives belong to us, not to anyone else. I just hope she realizes that sooner rather than later.
— Rann's Father

A son who cast aside the family's honor and duty to marry a commoner... and a granddaughter who chooses the unambitious path of an Explorer. Those two truly know how to surprise me.
Sending them to the frontier was supposed to make them reflect and correct their course, but each turned out more disappointing than the last!
Still, the girl is young, and her upbringing isn't entirely lacking. If she realizes her mistakes in time, I might consider giving her another chance.
— Rann's Grandfather

Rann is an exceptionally earnest person. No matter how small the task, she gives it her best and spares no effort in pursuing her goals.
But that same seriousness can sometimes cloud her judgment. When she focuses too intensely on one aspect, she may overlook others and let events drift off course.
Fortunately, all it usually takes is a gentle reminder for her to realize it immediately and adjust. She handles such moments with admirable humility.

Record

When Rann first joined the exploration team, she behaved exactly as the rumors described—uninterested in anything outside her training and almost never engaging in "unnecessary" conversation.
However, it did not take long for the others to realize she wasn't truly disinterested; she was simply restraining herself, refusing to do anything unrelated to her practice.
As for conversation, once someone brought up a topic she cared about, Rann would "unintentionally" share far more of her thoughts than expected.
After understanding these habits, the team's relationship with her improved noticeably, and their coordination grew far more seamless.

Rann does not mind discussing her family with the other members.
According to her, her family is not so much "fallen" as it is "unacknowledged".
Her wish to restore her household has nothing to do with reclaiming titles or gaining power. What she wants is to silence those who look down on her family—through her own efforts.
Yes. Silence them.
Whenever she speaks of those who sneer at her family, Rann easily grows agitated, forgetting entirely to maintain her prim and proper demeanor.

Anecdote

A renowned master had arrived in a nearby Settlement, said to be versed in all manner of martial disciplines. That day, he was scheduled to share his insights at the Settlement's largest theater.
Tickets were in high demand; Rann paid several times the original price just to obtain one from someone willing to part with it.
But the seat was excellent—third row. Being able to listen to the master from such a close distance made the cost well worth it in her eyes.

The master spoke of conviction, then courage, and from resolve he moved to perseverance—his words carried a certain depth.
Before long, the lecture ended. Rann felt she had heard a great deal, yet understood almost nothing.
As she was still turning the words over in her mind, the host announced the next segment—personal guidance from the master.
Rann was bewildered; she had heard nothing about such a segment beforehand. Yet many of the audience members behind her reacted with great excitement.
Because of the overwhelming number of attendees, the host decided by drawing lots, granting only the third-row audience the right to ask questions. A chorus of sighs followed.
However, seeking the master's guidance required three pieces of Originite, which Rann found far too expensive. But just then, she overheard the reactions of the other listeners.
"Only three? It was five in the last Settlement!""Three Originites for the master's advice? That's cheap!" "Damn it, why not me? I'd pay ten!"
Rann was just about to ask them about this master when the host suddenly called out to her, asking for her decision.
Before she could respond, someone behind her whispered, "Miss, I'll give you four—let me take your place."
Hearing that, Rann had already made up her mind.

By the time Rann left the theater, night had already fallen, yet she scarcely noticed. She was still turning the master's words over in her mind.
"Your heart is bound by chains. Only by facing it directly can you break through."
After hearing her question, the master had pondered in silence for a long time before offering only that single line.
For a phrase worth three Originites, it held remarkable weight. Rann still didn't understand it, but she believed it contained the key to surpassing her limits...
