Jasmine
Basic File
Personal Info
Never greedy. Never manipulative. Never petty. Those are the three fundamental principles of Jasmine, an outstanding go-to girl who knows how to live in the Abyss.
Young in years, she is old in experience, moving with the seasoned ease of a veteran. Exceptionally self-reliant in exploration affairs, she'll only seek help when truly stumped.
Her breezy and bright temperament ensures that no setback, no matter how tough, can dampen her infectious optimism.
Her word is ironclad. According to her fellow Explorers, if Jasmine promises something, consider it done.
And while she might drool over treasures a little too often, she's no crazed fortune-hunting Explorer known by the trade.
Several teams are a huge admirer of her work and thus have thrown sacks of gold her way in the hope that she would join them. But Jasmine turned them down.
Chronicles
When you've got a task that no one else can handle, just toss it to Jasmine!
That girl's a jack-of-all-trades. Skilled, efficient, and always helping out the slower rookies after finishing her own work.
Though, sure, she's picky about assignments. Too easy? Boring. Too messy? Not worth it.
Hahaha. But don't let that fool you. The second a critical job has no takers, she's always the first to step up.
— An Exploration Team Leader
When it's time to divvy up rewards, Miss Jasmine counts every coin. Three times. She'll go straight to the leader to make that right even if there is one coin short.
Some call her a miser, saying she's lax about everything except money. But... I don't think that's the whole story.
If she's overpaid, she returns the excess immediately. And she will give a very generous share of money to scavengers or orphaned kids who cross her path.
— A Rookie Explorer
We met when I introduced Hymnus to her, and now she drags me into every little thing.
Money stolen, bet lost, pay got docked, abandoned child, etc. On and on!
Ugh, if I could fix all that, I might as well be the Goddess herself. Ahem, scratch that.
Anyway, point is, I invited her to join Hymnus, to make a difference in the Abyss together. But nooo, she'd rather pester me with her trivia!
— The Hymnkeeper from Hymnus
Record
Her knowledge of monsters and the Abyss' terrain puts regular Explorers to shame. More surprisingly, she sometimes can share some insight into shady business, such as bandits, thieves, etc.
With her on board, exploration suddenly feels like a stroll.
How does someone so young know so much?
Teammates itch to uncover her past, but Jasmine waves it off as "just some lazy, uneventful years."
Yeah, nobody buys it. Only by enduring a fair share of trials can you know the Abyss like the back of your hand.
Jasmine always wore a smile. No matter how dire the situation, she faced it with unwavering optimism. Not once had her friends seen her falter.
This very fact unsettled some of them. After all, it's only natural, or human even, to feel stressed and give vent to it. Therefore, they gently urged her not to bottle everything up.
Yet Jasmine would simply turn their concern around. "What good does moping do? Problems won't solve themselves. So why not smile a little more?"
Anecdote
Jasmine was on a supply run in the Settlement when a familiar figure darted past her. She glanced up just in time to see a gaunt man reaching for an Explorer's backpack.
"Well, well. Fancy meeting you here!" Jasmine strode over, clapping a hand on his shoulder with a grin. "Long time no see. Let's catch up somewhere quieter, shall we?"
In a secluded alley, Jasmine lounged comfortably on the steps while the man sat rigidly beside her. "You used to run with bandits, didn't you? Heh. How far you have fallen."
The man shifted uncomfortably, lips parting as if to speak, but no words came.
"Remember what I told you last time I let you go?"
"Yes," he blurted before she could finish.
"Then why gamble on not running into me again? Who's backing you now? One-Eyed Thomas? Big-Nose Sean? Or..."
"I'm... on my own." A strained silence followed before he added, "I didn't want this."
"But no crew would take me not after they learned about my past. I had no choice!"
Jasmine exhaled faintly, shaking her head as she scribbled on a scrap of paper.
"Go to this address. Show the note on the back to their leader. He'll take you in."
Looking at her, the man hesitated, arm hovering midair.
"Relax," Jasmine said, thrusting the paper into his hand. "Their boss used to be in your line of work too. Now he's a legit Explorer."
"Think I should've handed him to the Settlement manager? Heh, You're not wrong."
"But you know how it is. Thieves and robbers get crushed in any Settlement. They're barred from being an Explorer for life."
"When I first met him, he was just a kid new to the Abyss. Got swindled out of everything, fell in with the wrong crowd..."
"Still, if there's a next time? I'll drag him to the manager myself."
