Personal Info

A member of Carefree Sanctuary and one of the children adopted by the Explorer Lu Xuan, Ciel is a bright and cheerful girl with an endless curiosity about the world. "Why?" is a question that's never far from her lips.
Left to her own devices, she tends to drift. Whether it's training, studying, or day-to-day life, she relies heavily on Lu Xuan and her older sisters.
But, ever since she officially began working as an Explorer, she's taken more steps on her own—even if big choices still send her seeking advice.
Despite her young age, Ciel is no pushover. Years of following Lu Xuan and her sisters into the Abyss have made her tougher and wiser than most give her credit for.
She currently focuses her efforts on purging monsters and ending their threats.

Chronicles

I remember when we read illustrated books together, she'd always bombard me with questions.
Back then, it was stuff like, "Why did the witch's magic stop working?" or "How can the princess's hair be that long," which I could manage.
But once she got older, her questions started stumping, even our teachers.
Luckily, Saico stepped in. She took it upon herself to explain things to Ciel and taught her so many things.
— Orphanage's Teacher

Ciel is the most loyal partner-in-crime! Every time we snuck out to play and got caught, she never ratted me out. She'd take the punishment alongside me, no complaints.
That's why I always bring her along for my, uh, "special missions" now!
She may not be as quick-witted as Sister Saico, but she's way smarter than I am. Whenever we hit a wall, she always has multiple solutions ready and all I have to do is pick one!
— Aria from Carefree Sanctuary

Ciel is a sharp one, just a little too easily swayed by company.
Like, when she's with Aria, the two of them are always off on some adventure, doing reckless stuff. But when she's with Saico, she's a lot more grounded.
Some say she lacks initiative, but I think she's just observing, learning how different people handle things.
The tactical brilliance she shows in combat? That's not something you get from talent alone.
— Lingyao from Carefree Sanctuary

Record

Not long after joining the team, Ciel quickly won over the hearts of many with her bright smile and innocent charm, earning the nickname "everyone's little sister."
Whether she's taking a break or heading into the field, there's always someone who sticks by her side.
Even when handling Carefree Sanctuary errands, off-duty teammates volunteer to help her out.
But don't mistake her for just a cute kid to protect. Ciel is no helpless mascot when it comes to team missions.
With lightning reflexes and sharp instincts, she's proven herself a trusted ally in the field.

Her constant questioning, however, can be tricky. On more than one occasion, someone has tried to make up an answer to satisfy her curiosity.
Though Ciel often lacks the ability to tell fact from fiction, her relentless follow-up questions usually push the teammate into a corner, until they couldn't hold up any longer.
So far, no harm has been done yet, but it's something to keep an eye on. Just in case anyone's tall tales start to skew her understanding of the world.

Anecdote

"Phila, go! I'll hold them off!"
"No. Let's get out of here together. I'm not leaving you behind!"
"Please, listen. If you can break through their lines, I will find a way to catch up."
"Stop lying. I know what you're really planning!"
Just then, an undead warrior lunged out of nowhere. In a flash, the man shoved Phila aside, taking the deadly claw himself.

That's where this volume ends.
Ciel had read this story more times than she could count. She already knew what came next: her brother's death drove Phila into a rage so powerful it awakened the divine force within her, enabling her to defeat the Undead King and save humanity.
A cliche tale, yet thrilling. Many readers said the final volume, where Phila faces the Undead King in a dramatic last stand, was the best part. But for Ciel, her favorite moment was always this one: the farewell between Phila and her brother.
It wasn't just about their deep sibling bond or the pain of losing someone dear. What stayed with her most was the lesson behind that sacrifice: being too weak could become a burden on the people who mattered most.

"Phila's brother could've escaped, but he gave that up to protect her sister."
"I understand that feeling. It's like how my sisters always look out for me."
"Whenever I get into trouble or face something scary, they're always there. They've never once left me behind."
"Things haven't gotten as bad for us as they did in the story... but I'm not Phila. I don't have some divine power hiding in me."
"And more than that, I don't want some divine miracle. I just want my sisters safe!"
"That's why I have to work harder. I can't always hide behind them. I can't be the one who slows everyone down when it matters."
"I want to find something only I can do. I want to become someone my sisters can count on."
As she closed the book, Ciel's eyes gleamed with quiet resolve. A decision had been made.
