Case 1

When Raeon's mother took Shiyu to sit in on a political conference for the first time, people thought this seemingly reserved girl was some spoiled noblewoman sent to represent the noble house. But they couldn't be further from the truth: Shiyu was the last person the Suzaku clan would recommend as a candidate. Only half a year earlier, she was helping a Nebu tribe fight Horusjust to find out how strong Horus is. Here's the clan's verdict on this unruly girl: rebellious, impertinent, rude, somewhat talented but arrogant. But for some reason, Raeon's mother saw something in her, giving her an important role to play in the revitalization of Eastrise.

Case 2

Shiyu has a special aura about her that allows her to easily blend in with scholars and military officers alike—she can easily talk about history but on the other hand she is also well versed in tactics. This special quality came from her life experiences. She was already a world trotter when she was a child. Her journey first took her to the borders of Eastrise and later to the territories of foreign factions.
Over the years she worked countless jobs and encountered numerous perils. Through it all, she emerged reborn as the perfect human she is today.

Shiyu's only shortcoming is her bluntness. She once lambasted Raeon for her ignorance, chastised Chiraha for her policies, and berated Firentia for her tactics. As for her own Suzaku clan, she doesn't even bother chewing them out anymore.
Shiyu's tendency to run off at the mouth is well justified by her erudition and more importantly by her consummate [Alchemy skills]. It's rumored that Shiyu once lectured Firentia about her tactics, and Firentia became furious and challenged Shiyu to a duel. The two fought inside the Forbidden City for hours with neither side winning—that's how good Shiyu is.
Her travel around the world gave her deep insight into Echo Crystals. After she dissected the [Alchemy] theory in an ancient Eastrise tome, she saw many redundant rituals and took the liberty of simplifying them. This triggered an [Alchemy] reform that took Eastrise people's understanding of Echo Crystals to a new level, prompting their widespread application among the general public. Raeon's teacher Pan Pan once invited Shiyu to the scholar alliance she founded. But Shiyu turned it down, saying that all of the alliance members combined were no intellectual match for her. This earned her the enmity of Pan Pan.
